WE WORSHIP THROUGH MUSIC!
Our Music Ministry includes several established, ongoing music groups, as well as occasional ensembles for special occasions. Vocal Choirs include the Chancel Choir, Men’s Chorale, Women’s Ensemble, Children’s & Youth Choir, and the Good Shepherd Singers.
The following staff of the Music Ministry is involved in the Vocal Choir Program:
- Linda Gilmour Music director
- Dorenda Morse, Accompanist and Pianist
- Ernest W. Sturdevant, Organist
- Lucien Daigle, Section Leader
- Francis Clark, composer – writes special cantatas
Several different choirs are involved in presenting music
at the Church of the Good Shepherd:
The Chancel Choir provides anthems for the 11 a.m. worship service and other special services, September through May. Selections vary in style and reflect themes unique to each worship service, as well as challenge and satisfy musical tastes of participants and the congregation.
The Chancel Choir rehearses in the Sanctuary every Thursday evening at 7:30 pm – 9 pm when either the Men’s Chorale or women’s Ensemble are rehearsing that evening; otherwise the choir rehearsal begins at 7 pm and ends at 8:30 pm.
Men’s Chorale and Women’s Ensemble
These ensembles provide anthems for the 11 a.m. service approximately every 3-5 weeks throughout the year. The repertoire for each ensemble tends to be interesting, challenging, and unique due to the nature of writing for all treble or all bass voices. Both ensembles rehearse and present anthems during the summer.
These ensembles typically rehearse in the Sanctuary from 6:45 to 7:30 p.m. on alternating Thursdays before the Chancel Choir rehearsal.
Children and youth choir is a key piece of our Christian Education program, and it includes much more than just singing. Linda Gilmour, our Minister of Music, teaches Bible stories, public speaking, acting and teamwork, while building Christian community. There are also opportunities for solos for practiced and new singers alike.
Contact Linda Gilmour, our music director, for details on rehearsal times.
Good Shepherd Singers
This small, dedicated group of singers, accompanied by the COGS Band provide all of the music for the 9 a.m. worship service. During the summer, the singers/band provide hymns or anthems approximately twice a month during the worship service.
This group of volunteers rehearse in the Chancel on Sunday mornings throughout the year.
