People behind the scenes!
The pastor and staff are very important to the running of the church but they answer to the Church Council and Ministry Leads.
On May 1, 2015, Rev. TevisTownes became the Pastor – Teacher of the Church of the Good Shepherd. Her ministry among us began in January 2013 as Pastor of Christian Education and Community Life, following pastoral work in Rhode Island and Northern California. Sarah is an avid rock climber and outdoorswoman who celebrates being a spouse and the parent of two active teenagers. Her Master of Divinity degree is from the Pacific School of Religion in Berkeley, California. She serves on the Mission Planning Board of the Southwest Conference UCC.
Linda began her work with us in 2008, serving first as Choral Music Director, expanding our choral groups from three to six in a very short time. An accomplished pianist as well as choral conductor, Linda has served churches in Colorado, Virginia and New Mexico. In 2012 she assumed the role of Minister of Music, coordinating our church’s music ministry. She also directs musicals with our children, youth and adults.
Ernest W Sturdevant
Ernest W Sturdevant began piano study with his Mother at the age of five and then organ as a teenager. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music from the Conservatory of Music, University of Missouri-Kansas City, majoring in voice with minors in theatre & conducting. Ernest’s professional music credits include concert, oratorio, opera, music director, vocal coach, pianist, organist, arranger & composer.
Kate has served on the organ bench of a Christian church for more than 50 years. She began her work at Church of the Good Shepherd in 2005, not only playing the organ, but also directing our Joyful Noise Bell Choir. She became Minister of Music in 2008. In 2012 she decided to focus on playing the organ, retiring from her position as Minister of Music.
Dorenda has graced the worship of Church of the Good Shepherd since 2002. Her gifted musicianship adds greatly to the worship life of our church. She accompanies many of our choral groups, rehearsing weekly with the Chancel Choir.
Michelle first served among us as substitute organist, occasionally joining our bell choir as a fill-in ringer. In 2012 the Joyful Noise Bell Choir insisted that she become their new director, and she happily agreed.
Nancy has been a long-time member of our church, and is a pillar of our choral music program. As she completed her nursing degree in the early 2000s, she volunteered as our Parish Nurse on an occasional basis. Soon after, she joined our staff, coordinating CPR and AED training and certification, as well as offering occasional visits to members or friends of the church.
