“In this Holy Week, let us be mindful of the redemptive power that our faith in Jesus provides us.

In this Holy Week let us be mindful of the suffering from which we too easily hide our faces.

In this Holy Week, let us be mindful of those who, on our behalf and out of their own deep faith, abide in the hard places and heal the deep wounds.”   ~ Rev. John C. Dorhauer, General Minister and President of the United Church of Christ

PALM SUNDAY, April 14, 2019

Worship with us at 9:00 am and 11:00 am

Palm Sunday is the day that we remember and celebrate the day Jesus entered into Jerusalem as Savior and King. As Jesus rode a donkey into the town of Jerusalem a large crowd gathered and laid palm branches and their cloaks across the road, giving Jesus royal treatment. Hundreds of people shouted “Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest heaven!”

We at Church of the Good Shepherd, UCC welcome God into our presence and celebrate Jesus’ unconventional entry into Jerusalem.

MAUNDY THURSDAY, April 18, 2019

Worship with us at 6:00 pm – Fellowship Hall

Maundy Thursday is observed by Christians on the Thursday before Easter, which falls this year on April 18. Holy Thursday, as it is also commonly known, marks the Last Supper of Jesus Christ with his apostles prior to his betrayal, trial, and crucifixion.

We will celebrate with a Communion service, singing of familiar hymns followed by a shared meal.

GOOD FRIDAY, April 19, 2019

Worship with us at 6:00 pm in the Sanctuary

Good Friday Tenebrae* Service with the Joyful Noise Bell Choir

The word “Tenebrae” comes from the Latin meaning “darkness.” The Tenebrae is an ancient Christian Good Friday service that makes use of gradually diminishing light through the extinguishing of candles to symbolize the events of that week from the triumphant Palm Sunday entry through Jesus’ burial.

This increasing darkness symbolizes the approaching darkness of Jesus’ death and of hopelessness in the world without God. The service concludes in darkness, sometimes with a final candle, the Christ candle, carried out of the sanctuary, symbolizing the death of Jesus. A loud noise may also sound symbolizing the closing of Jesus’ tomb. The worshipers then leave in silence to ponder the impact of Christ’s death and await the coming Resurrection.

EASTER SUNDAY, April 21, 2019

    • Reserved Visitor parking spaces are available on the right side of the parking lot directly opposite the entrance to the church.
    • Child care is available from 8:45 – 12:15. Children are also welcome to attend the Easter service.

Always popular, our Easter Egg Hunt is for children up to age 12. Join the fun in the courtyard next to the church entrance at 10:30. In case of inclement weather, we’ll be hiding those Easter eggs inside.

All are welcome to join us for an Easter feast.  We’re serving up delights such as ham and egg casseroles catered by Gourmet to Go,  plus salads, side dishes, and desserts supplied by congregation’s members.

Lunch is served following the 11:00 am service at approximately 12:15 pm in the Fellowship Hall.
