The Council and Staff met on Wednesday, March 18th to discuss our response to COVID-19. Here are some updates.
Hours: We are working normal hours. You can still email/call the staff.
Erica (in the office): Monday - Friday, 10 AM-2 PM | | 505-850-4052
Sarah (telecommuting): Sunday - Thursday 9 AM-6 PM (flexible, based on member needs). | | 505-850-4052
If you have any needs (food, someone to talk to, medical supplies - anything!) or have resources to offer, please call Erica at 505-856-1004.
Our Care Team is active.
Please contact Roberta Glaser at 505-228-6745 with prayer requests and needs. She is communicating regularly with Erica and Sarah, coordinating caregiving.
You can still mail checks and give online.
Erica is picking up the mail, Val is depositing checks, and George is paying bills. Our address is 7834 Tennyson St. NE. Albuquerque, NM 87113. To give online, text the word "give" to 505-278-5757 or click here to give online.
We're still paying our part-time staff.
The Council came to a consensus: we will keep paying our childcare workers and musicians at their current rate, even if they are unable to work due to COVID-19. Some staff declined this offer, but others depend on COGS paychecks to make ends meet. Please be generous and support our budget so we can sustain our life-giving programs and staff through these times.
The building is closed.
Church of the Good Shepherd's building will be closed until the NM Dept of Health confirms it is safe to gather in groups again.
No outside or church activities will be held at COGS other than Family Promise (more below).
We are temporarily suspending alarm codes, so please stay home! Your code will not work! Exceptions will be made for Erica, Linda, Sarah, George, Nena-Joy, and Val, who will occasionally need access to keep the church operating. We will not have contractors on-site during this time other than our cleaning service, who we're assured have the appropriate gear to protect themselves while sanitizing our building.
Church services and groups are meeting online with connections by computer and phone. We are taking social distancing recommendations seriously. All gatherings will be held virtually until the NM Department of Health confirms it is safe to gather again.
- Bible Study: 11 AM Tuesdays
- Check-in Gathering: 10:30 AM Thursdays

Family Promise guests will be staying with us.
Imagine being homeless at a time like this and hearing from everyone "I'm sorry, there is no room at the inn..." Thank you to our Council for their extravagant generosity and to Erica and Family Promise for their hard work to develop a plan to keep folks as safe (and distant) as possible.
The Council voted Thursday night to fill a gap for Family Promise, whose partner churches all canceled their stays for the next 8 weeks. Family Promise guests staying with us is contingent on the receipt of a clear plan from Family Promise on how they will manage sanitation and the health of our guests.
Families will be using the downstairs portion of the church only, and Family Promise is picking up the bill for additional cleaning. We will not be responsible for staffing volunteers; we are simply sharing our space. If you're interested in volunteering anyway, they can always use our help. Contact Gail Chynoweth to learn more.
God is still speaking.
With the outbreak of COVID-19, many of our habits are changing. In the midst of uncertain times, it's hard to know what lessons we'll take away. What we CAN know for sure is that God is still speaking! God's Spirit is showing up in the generosity of strangers, the hard work of healthcare workers and volunteers, the unexpected connections over phone and internet, and the resilience of our Christian community. Keep listening. God is with us!
